You do want the oscillator to sit tight in the socket, but I found
there was a tiny amount of lead exposed due to rubber pads on the
underside of the oscillator can near the leads, prevented a "perfect"
fit. [1]

My opinion (and it is a cheap opinion at that) is that if the gap is
large enough to measure, then it large enough you can trim the leads
by that much. :-)
