The key to using a speaker for the KX1 is that it should provide a good impedance match with the KX1 output. I've found that the RadioShack model 19-318A works very well with the KX1 without any additional amplification. The only modification I made to the speaker was to add a shorter cable to save weight and to use a stereo plug so that both the tip and ring are wired in parallel. I like to use a speaker when I take the KX1 on a hiking trip so that I can keep the radio on while doing camp chores. That way I'm only tied to the rig when I'm actually transmitting. 73, Bruce Prior N7RR
