The key to using a speaker for the KX1 is that it should provide a good 
impedance match with the KX1 output.  I've found that the RadioShack model 
19-318A works very well with the KX1 without any additional amplification.  The 
only modification I made to the speaker was to add a shorter cable to save 
weight and to use a stereo plug so that both the tip and ring are wired in 
parallel.  I like to use a speaker when I take the KX1 on a hiking trip so that 
I can keep the radio on while doing camp chores.  That way I'm only tied to the 
rig when I'm actually transmitting.
