Hi Don,
Many thanks for your reply,,,I have now emailed Elecraft
regarding a new alignment tool.
At the end of the day it appears the final voltage at TP5 is not critical
but,,, it would be nice to have the filter peaked.
Many thanks once again
Kind regards

Paul,
The exact voltage at TP5 is not critical at this stage of alignment, it is
simply an indicator of the peak while you are tuning the bandpass filters.
Keep the voltage high enough for a reliable reading, but higher voltages
will mask the peak, so try to keep the voltage within the range indicated
in the manual.
Use a plastic tool that fits the slugs - if you do not, you risk breaking
the slug. Should that happen, you must change the inductor. Better to
wait until you have a good tool, Elecraft will send a replacement if you
ask [EMAIL PROTECTED]
After you do the peaking, you will set the input attenuation to produce
full power (20 watts) with the input signal level from your transceiver,
and then you will set the LEDs to indicate that 20 watt power level
correctly. Do the adjustments in the order indicated in the manual.

Hi all,
Wondering if someone can give me some advise please,
I'm driving my xv-144 with a TS850 which according to the ts850 manual
has an output of 0-10dbm so i have chosen the input jumper settings
within the xv-144 of 250mW as the lower setting is 1mW and i don't want
to over drive the txvr.
I've managed to position the tx coils as per the manual but have
stripped the alignment tool and have been taking to it(the tool) with a
knife to try adjust the slugs with little luck on obtaining a grip on the
slugs.
What i'd like to ask about is the voltage measured at TP5 and how
critical is it that the final voltage measured is under 10v as per the
manual. To achieve the 8-10w drive from the xv-144 that i require for my
amp i'm measuring just over 13v at TP5 while adjusting the input
attenuator R22.
Wondering if this is ok (?) or if i should persevere with peaking the tx
coils (?)
I'm concerned that if i adjust the jumper setting to 1mW positions that
0-10dbm will be over driving the xv-144.
Any advice more than welcome and appreciated.
Kind regards
Paul
