There is some interaction between the mic gain and vox settings. You should be sure you have the mic gain properly set (not too low). Then with the vox gain brought up on the menu, slowly advance the gain until the vox reliably triggers. Of course, be sure you have enabled the bias. If you haven't, neither the vox nor the mike will work, assuming you have the Pro set with the IC element.
Of course voice volume varies, but for what it is worth, I get very reliable vox triggering with the vox gain at about 9 or so.
