Phil, We have the same amp. I hold the XMIT button to get into tune. The tuning level I set is at 3 watts. I tune an MFJ994 remoted at the antenna base. This does the job for me perfectly. The 3 watts gets the job done every time. I tried 2 watts and stepped it up until I was satisfied the tuner was sensing enough power to activate it. I don't use the standby any more on the amp as it is inconvenient.
