I stand corrected on the price of the cabinet parts, the reason the side panels were more expensive was I ordered two of them. ;-)
Top Panel $37.40 - expensive yet IMO worth it based on the change of finish. Side Panel $31.40 - not any change that I can see and even if there was, a trifle spendy for my tastes. I'll be returning $62.80 worth of side panels. I did upgrades today for early K3 #272. I considered these necessary: 12v sense PA REMIO UPGD RS232 isolation and AFOPMDKT speaker short circuit protection. I also ordered a new top cover to match the beautiful textured top cover Elecraft is sending with new K3s. The sides and bottom seem the same, already textured.
