If you load the latest K3 beta firmware (3.03), you should set CONFIG:AGC DCY to SOFT, temporarily, even if you weren't planning to try the "soft-decay" feature. At present, setting AGC DCY to NOR will result in excessively fast AGC and higher noise.
We'll be updating the beta firmware as soon as this has been corrected. Meanwhile, please do try the "soft" AGC on pileups, if you get a chance.
