Heh, heh... Some years ago I was tuning around on 40 meters and heard a CQ so I answered it. Turned out to be a Novice and I noted he was not in the sub-band he was supposed to be in.
He disappeared. A few minutes later my phone rang. It was the Novice, in a PANIC!!! He had looked me up to ask what was happening. He was on 15 meters and I was on 40. Turned out we were about a mile apart and I was hearing his rig's xtal oscillator on 40 that was tripled into 15 meters, and he was copying my third harmonic. A nice eyeball QSO and some checks confirmed we were both entirely legal, but it's a reminder that a few mW ERP can be heard.
