What mod/document are you referring to about Karl? If there's an error in one of the docs we want to fix it.
AFAIK, *all* mods are carefully tested including making the resistance checks on an actual unit to ensure they are accurate before the document is released. If it says "open circuit" the resistance should be many megohms. Sometimes it's possible to "turn on" a junction somewhere in the circuit by connecting the DMM leads in a certain way, but the correct reading should be obtained by reversing the leads. When that's true, there should be a note in the procedure to reverse the leads if the readings are wrong. Also, if an older ohmmeter is used, it will often produce totally different readings because it applies higher voltages to the circuit. In fact, older "ohmmeters" not specifically designed for solid state work can destroy integrated circuits and transistors with the voltage some of them apply. Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- First off I ran across some people taking about Head Phones and the K3. If I what use a Mono pair of phones, I like the Kenwood HS-5 8 Ohms. They are well mad and sound good. But I regress, at the end of replace KI03, one is told to cut both traces on the RF board, from the bottom of the radio. They state if cut properly, you should read "0" ohms on your meter. Well, I got reads of between 12-14 ohms. Is there not all kinds of electric stuff on the other side of the board for the circuit to follow. My mag glass works just fine to show I cut the copper out the PC board. Just so you known ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
