Thanks to all who gave me suggestions on soldering. Was able to perform the Extreme Signal RX mod without a hitch tonight. Tested the radio, and all is well. Only nervous part was soldering the hookup wire to R56. I was afraid I'd loosen it. I kept my iron at 364*C though and made sure contact was quick with R56; just long enough to tack the wire in place.
Now just waiting for the noisy VFO kit to arrive so I can solder those resistor/diode pairs into the RF board.
