Personally I'd greatly more appreciate 8 PF's which can easily be labeled by the LCD. I'd prefer even more the ability to have the power button as yet another PF as I'll probably have the P3 power up upon power applied and then simply plug it into the +12V out on the K3.
I honestly have gotten well used to using M>V then a number to change bands and never use the BAND rocker. I'll have things that I'd like to put on those PF's but my rig won't be using them as band switching buttons. Honestly with two taps I can get a bandswitch done in less time than a tap and hold takes. What I would like to see is if a PF is pointed at a menu item that sends the radio to that menu item in the actual menu. So if I set a PF to AGC THR I can then simply use VFO B to quickly get to the other AGC settings. This way I can use some of the PF's as quick bookmarks into the configuration menu. ~Brett (KC7OTG) On Sat, 2009-08-22 at 01:12 -0400, inventor_sixty_one wrote: > The power switch really isn't necessary; holding the QSY knob in could > perform the same function. > Most people will select for the P3 to come 'on' with the K3 anyway. > By freeing up the power switch position, you create five 'slots' (the former > power switch and the 4 PF buttons). > Then, you make those five positions into discrete half-height buttons, for a > total of 10 across the bottom of the display. > The 'menu' button next to the QSY knob stays as-is. > Very little additional board work or sheet metal changes would be needed, > and, the buttons and caps themselves are already > Elecraft stock parts, from the K1.
