Good Evening,
First I must apologize for not announcing the twenty meter net not being
held. There was simply no room. By that time it was much too late to tell
folks it was not going to be held. Then, since the next net was due to start
in only an hour, it made little sense to write an announcement. This seems
like the appropriate time and place. Due to the CQWW there was no space for
our net. For the second one I waited until after the mayhem ceased and then
started about 0000:30z so everyone had cleared from the frequency. It is
always interesting to hear a totally jam packed band go quiet in only a few
seconds. However, they improved the propagation by pumping out a gazillion
watts (10^93??). It is wonder the sun did not dim from the power usage ;)
   Weather reports varied from 12 degrees into the 60s.  But even I had sun;
well, until minutes before the net. The fog came in over the mountains from
the coast and flowed over my ridge. Straight up it was clear but in front of
me the trees simply went away. On my trip home from Thanksgiving dinner I got
to Buxton and dove into a dense cloud. I was hoping to break out of it on the
way up but I never did. The normal ten minute drive took at least thirty
minutes. During my attempts to find edges to the road I wandered back and
forth across the road. Idling in low was too fast at times. I rolled down the
window and looked sideways and down at where the gravel turned into grass or
into oblivion. Skirting the cliffs was most interesting :) Identifying each
landmark kept me going. Luckily I know the road very, very well so I was not
tempted to dive off a cliff into the trees.

There was a joint check in this evening from an unidentified KX1. This rig
will soon be overseas with the antenna they were testing this evening.
Hopefully when Mike returns I can get the rest of the story. Dale told me he
was sharing an earbud and thus got credit for checking in today.
Sorry I could not find a spot for the twenty meter net but the contest was
wall to wall operators. Last year, and in previous years, the net was held
later in the day so this contest was not an issue. This year the propagation
forced me to run the net earlier so it gets caught up in the tail end of
contests when folks are looking for mults to improve their scores. However, I
think we are past the major contests of the year. Next week should be a little
less active.
   Until next week stay well,
      73,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
