I do the same (I have back trouble, sometimes sitting at a desk causes pain)
but using Remote Desktop and IP-Sound.

It seems to me that there is little to gain from using the Ethernet to
Serial solutions being discussed unless you can eliminate the PC at the
remote end altogether. Remote Desktop over a virtual private network is
standard technology and relatively easy to get going. It should not be ruled
out as a solution without good reason.
