[With regard to the need for instrumentation] W3FPR wrote: "So, the question becomes - What degree of accuracy in power output and S-meter reading do you wish to achieve? The default settings will be very close, but with the added instruments, one can achieve a higher degree of confidence in those parameters. "
People entering QRP competitions like to be certain they are not putting out any more than the 5 watts allowed in these activities. Hence, the biggest need for a wattmeter. I rely on the K3 default settings, and will check them if and when I obtain a wattmeter I can use as a standard. A signal generator with calibrated output levels (such as the XG-2) can also be used to extrapolate measurements of a receiver's minimum discernible signal (mds). For me, that was more important than accuracy in s-meter readings. I also used the XG-2 to make some nice frequency plots of various combinations of roofing and DSP filter, with the aid of the K3 Filter Tools software by KS7D. 73, Chuck NI0C K3 s/n 1061 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
