Lee, I had a similar problem about a month back when reorganizing my station. Turned out to be the Signalink mixer control. It has to be all the way at 100%. Something I did in the interim changed it.
Go to your sound settings (XP) and put the speaker icon in the system try. Then open it and click options and then properties.
