Good Evening and Happy New Year!
Oregon has lived up to its weather reputation this week, "If you don't like
the weather wait five minutes!" The weather forecasters have no hope of
getting it correct. There are so many weather zones it is difficult to predict
what is going on in each of them with any accuracy. One of the predictions was
for "Wintry Mix". Well, wintry mix was what I received. Snow, rain, freezing
rain, sleet, hail, and then back to rain and snow falling together; all in the
space of half an hour! Today the sun came out for a few minutes and, as
normal, it felt and looked very odd!
Propagation this week was not great. Weak signals and multiple modes of QSB
made copy difficult. I tried both fox hunts but only heard a few hounds and
never once heard a fox. Oh well, that is why they call it a hunt ;) I also
attempted to check in to the MARS nets a few times but never once could hear
the NECOS. I did hear a couple folks checking in but they could not hear me
for a relay. I did walk outside a couple times during the week to ascertain
whether my antennas were still up. Yes, they were, but the propagation was
just no good. However, Space Weather is predicting continuing solar activity.
That is good because this is the time of the year for sitting at the rig and
working contacts. Maybe even a contest or two.
Please join us tomorrow evening.
