I just had an enlightening experience with the K3 RF gain control that may help other K3 owners. As the RF gain control was rotated clockwise, a significant drop in output occurred over a segment of 3 to 4 degrees at about the 1 o'clock point. It seemed to me that the pot had a worn spot in it (I'm an old analog type.)
However, when I contacted Elecraft Support, Gary recommended that I reload FW and do an RF gain calibration. His suggestion worked! The RF gain now works smoothly. I hope this info is helpful. BTW, the Elecraft XG2 signal generator sure made calibration easy.
