Craig, The Proset-K2 uses an electret element (like the MH2 and MD2), thus has a high output level and needs bias. The Heil HC-4 element is a dynamic type and does not need bias. The Heil HC-4 and HC-5 elements typically have lower output levels than the typical dynamic microphones. The HC-4 has a more restricted bandpass - reportedly optimized for DX (see the Heilsound website).
