Proportional representation

I am currently engaged in a research essay into the question of whether
the Australian House of Reps should be based on proportional
representation and not the preferrential system.  Can some one point me in
the direction of any relavent literature on the subject,predomanitly
Australian but example of other countries will be much appreciated.
Anyone have an opinon on the subject?
