Alternative Schwartz set definition: 1. An "unbeaten set" is a set of alternatives none of which are beaten from outside that set. 2. A small unbeaten set is an unbeaten set that doesn't contain a smaller unbeaten set. 3. The Schwartz set is the set of alternatives that are in small unbeaten sets. *** This is equivalent to the beat-path definition of the Schwartz set. Mike p.s. It's occurred to me that, since there are only 3 main methods advocated here--VA, Margins, & IRO, if someone doesn't designate a method, then it could be assumed that they would designate whichever of the above 3 methods complies with the standard that they've ranked 1st. Since Schwartz seems to be agreed to be the best Condorcet version proposed so far, then it would seem reasonable to use VA Schwartz if if someone's favorite standard is met by VA, or Margins Schwartz if someone's favorite standard is met instead by Margins.
