You make some good points there. Even though there is only the smallest of chances of having dangerus electrical leakage in a modern day stereo system ( unless it is defective); there is a far greater chance that the chassis is "grounded". This is a certainty if you have even one three prong plug connecting any of the components to the wall plug. Remember all the components from the TV to the turntable (oops dated myself) are tied together to provide a common ground through the shielded cables.
 
Additionally you should NEVER even pick up a "violet wand" if you are grounded. They are NOT isolated from the line and in fact the  shaft of the intensity control may be at FULL  line voltage. In fact the "violet wand" is much more dangerous to the one holding it than to the one getting zapped as long as you use the bulbs or keep an air gap between the tip and the bottoms bottom.
