Hi Curt,

Sorry for the very late reply, for some reason your mail was marked as
spam by our spamassassin, I just found it...

Did you check our latest releases? 0.5.24.1 was released yesterday,
packages for ubuntu (hardy and intrepid) are available in our PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~elisa-developers/+archive).

Do the same videos play fine with other gstreamer-based players (you can
try totem-gstreamer or gstreamer directly: `gst-launch playbin
uri=file:///path/to/video/file`)?

Yes, that's what it does, although it seems the user feedback is
confusing. It's simply looking for modified/new/deleted files, not
rescanning the unchanged files. So after one complete scan has been
performed, the rescans should be fast. If you quit Elisa while scanning,
next time you start it it should restart where it left it.

Some time ago Rui wrote an analogTV/v4l2 plugin for the 0.3 series of
Elisa. Last time I checked he was porting it to Elisa 0.5. Rui, any updates?

There are many ways in which you can help. Here is a quick unordered list:
 - Play with Elisa and report bugs
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/elisa/+filebug);
 - Come up with cool feature specifications you would like to see in
Elisa and open bug reports to track them;
 - Localize Elisa in any language other than English you may happen to
speak (https://translations.launchpad.net/elisa/0.5)
 - Write cool plugins for Elisa (see our beta documentation:
https://elisa.fluendo.com/wiki/Docs/PluginTutorial)
 - ...
