What a mess. The problem is that Ubuntu has two packages containing conflicting modules, pressumably one compiled against different kernel sources. ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-10-generic and linux-image-2.6.24-10-generic contain same alsa modules. After overwriting snd-hda-intel and core alsa modules with the ones provided by the kernel-image package em28xx-audio is loading, but it seems that the PAL-DK is still unsupported, as the only think I can hear is a hiss.
