Hi Dan,

Thanks for this effort!

Just to clarify, Emacs.app is based on unicode-2 branch of GNU emacs,
CVS a few days before date of each release (e.g., rc3 on 2007/11/20).
However, note that a few weeks ago this branch was merged into the
trunk. There had been a plan for a while to merge Emacs.app into CVS
after this event, and, after a delay due to me being sick, this is now
going forward.

I have a local version of Emacs.app merged against the trunk. I have
been updating it to comply with a number of requests and suggestions
from the emacs devs to get the code into a state acceptable for merge.
Within a week or two I plan to check this in to a branch on GNU emacs
CVS, upon which it will receive some wider review and then hopefully
be merged to trunk.

Based on earlier discussion on emacs-devel, your goal of trying to
"integrate the two Mac GUIs" will be most welcome at this stage, as
the devs are keen on seeing the two ports closer to identical from a
user perspective, and sharing as much code as possible. (However note
that the pure Carbon port currently in CVS will likely go away in
favor of a hybrid Carbon-AppKit (Cocoa) version not yet checked in.)

To improve the basis for collaboration, I'd like to get the Emacs.app
branch checked in as soon as I can. It would be helpful if you could
post a more detailed summary of your changes, from both user and code
perspectives. I could try possibly to integrate some of them
beforehand.

thanks,
Adrian
