Actually, last time I tried, you had to explicitly disable either Carbon or X in order for the compilation to succeed, so I think that as long as we can't build an Emacs that can use both Carbon and X (and tty), we should automatically disable Carbon if X is specified and automatically disable X if Carbon is specified. By default one of the two should be selected, probably Carbon.
