So this would indicate that the problem is specific to Cygwin. I see several possible ways to try to resolve this: . Ask on the Cygwin mailing list if someone knows about this problem and its reason(s); . Try upgrading to a newer version of Cygwin or downgrading to an older one, and see if that helps; . Post here the results of running ./configure; perhaps we should try various options related to memory allocation and see if any of them solve the problem.
