That is because it tries to use a pop-up menu, and that doesn't work
on a tty.
Didn't you say the reason you wanted to use this command was that it
uses a menu?
main reason for me was that it saves the corrected word and the misspelled
word, and the correction is done automatically by abbrev mode next time I
make the same spelling mistake. The menu of proposed correct spelling is
certainly helpful as well to those of us whose english is not their first
language (me...)
but there are menus under xterm for some commands, aren't there?
