And for better or for worse, it seems to be becoming the standard method
of doing the sort of things it does.  So if there are problems with it,
we should either try to fix package-config (send bug reports), or try to
convince people to use something else (this option seems a lot harder!).

Simply _ignoring_ package-config doesn't seem practical.
