I had a glance at 'rlogin' and found the following: It already does EFS (or ange-ftp) file name tracking by setting 'comint-file-name-prefix' to the right user/machine syntax. Sadly, this is done *after* any user-definable hooks are run. If he wants, Francesco could 'M-x eval-expression (setq comint-file-name-prefix "/r:user@machine:")' in the buffer each time. If I am not wrong, doing M-x cd RET /r:box: RET should be enough. Not sure, though.
