Actually, they do. Any message you are editing lives in Drafts. It
stays there until it is successfully sent, and which point it is
moved from Drafts to Sent.
When there's an error, Mail does strange stuff with the message, like
putting it into an Outbox that it forgets to display. Higly annoying.
