eruditely mused the following:

Enter your new address in the outgoing message. Then click on the
"clock" and select the "Copy recipient to address book"

>Whether I write the letter first and then add the addressee using the
>first letters of their name and tabbing over or have opened the blank
>letter window by selecting the default address in the address book and
>using Cmd+N, I often decide after writing the letter to send the it to
>the recipient's other address(es) as well and wish I could add it(them)
>easily. Is there a way without going back to the address book?

With the cursor in the name or address field, use Command + up (or down)
Arrow to rotate through all addresses for any ONE addressee. This is one
of the coolest tricks I ever learned on this list.
