Nope, it won't effect your freeze issue (well, ok, SHOULDN'T effect it). I have tons of saved emails that no longer have their attachment, and I have never had a problem. There is also an applescript around somewhere that deletes the attachment when you delete the message. Its probably on my FTP site (honestly, I really don't know what is on there, I really don't pay much attention to it).
