I think maybe another possible source of your RTF problem may be caused by the sender. I've noticed recently on some of the webmail sites, when sending an attachment, one is given the choice of "inline" or "as attachment" for sending the attachment. I've always taken this to mean "stuck in the body of the email" versus "being a 'true' attachment," but I've never followed up on the meaning, as I don't normally use webmail for sending attachments. It is one other possibility about which to inquire, I guess.
