If it's any consolation (and from my own experience with 3 different - 
dialup - ISPs) it seems that a lot of responses to my emails are just as 
confused/confusing and/or not applicable to whatever I asked them about. 
On average, it seems to take 2 to 4 exchanges of email before either I 
get a usable response (or just - as you mentioned - give up on them).

And this has been true with Socket-Net (regional Missouri provider), 
Integrity.Com (larger regional provider) and Earthlink.Net ('national' 
ISP)...
