Yes, if there is a listing for SIT files there, delete it. >What do and how do I replace it (with)? Nothing. That area is just for mapping file types for applications you don't have. For instance, that is where you would map an MS Excel spreadsheet to AppleWorks if you didn't have MS Excel.
