Given the various discussion about SPAM and the different ways they try
to trap you into responding, I've been trying to figure out several
repeating SPAM messages I've been getting the last few weeks.

One is titled "Howard, 1 Minute Mortgage Quote Rhinebeck Residents;
Record Low 4.3% Rates"

The message (this time) is:

"This revelation astounded the opposition, and the "previous question"
was ordered. On the final vote the bill was carried through triumphantly,
and has ever since remained an important item in the statute-book of the
State. In the spring of 1866 Barnum was re-elected to represent the town
of Fairfield in the Legislature."

The previous time, it was something equally oddball.

What would be the point of this SPAM, one that has a typical teaser as
the subject?

The other one I'm getting regularly (approximately bi-weekly) is called
"Gouranga".

Its message is:

"Call out Gouranga be happy.
Gouranga Gouranga Gouranga.
Say Gouranga my friend..
Gouranga.......That which brings the highest happiness."

A google search for Gouranga turned up:

GOURANGA! - A Grand Theft Auto News & Resource Site

Gouranga" is a Hare Krishna mantra meaning "be happy".

Apparently, it has been going around as spam, bumper stickers, posters,
etc. for over 20 years.

I haven't written back, but I was tempted.

Anybody else seeing these or other atypical SPAM messages?

Regards,

Howard Bornstein
