Let's note the distinction between OS 9 and Classic.

OS 9, is an operating system and is a zombie; it's not dead (e.g. it will
function quite well on the Macs it supports, but it has no upgrade
future); There will be no updates to OS 9 beyond 9.2.2. OS 9 will not
boot certain Macs produced in 2003, e.g. 17" powerbook, the forthcoming
G5; OS 9 almost certainly will not boot Macs produced in 2004. That said,
Macs that currently run OS 9 will run OS 9 and OS 9 - based apps as long
as their Mac works.

Classic, which is not an OS, rather an emulator, will allow OS 9-based
apps. to run under OS X. People don't "love Classic," they loved OS 9.
Classic will not boot a Mac as OS 9 will.
