There has been past mention of screen problems, attributed to hardware 
faults, so perhaps I may be forgiven for straying slightly off topic.

I never quite got around to addressing the slowly worsening screen 
problems on the display of my 17" Powerbook. Photographs acquired 
headache-inducing patterns while my solid blue desktop acquired a moire 
pattern, which latterly began to flash - migraine territory. Installation 
of Panther provided no relief and I was reconciling myself to sending the 
laptop off to Apple. Then I calibrated the screen by going to the 
Displays pane of System Preferences, selecting the Color tab then 
pressing the Calibrate button. The screen is now behaving properly again. 
At least for now. May it work for all so afflicted.
