Various listmembers were kind enough to propose suggestions in response 
to my earlier query as to how to insert a para/line fee into this. Alas 
none worked, although I know it is possible as I achieved it a few years 
ago - but have since forgotten how. It looked smart when the reply began:

"Dear [sender]

Thanks for your message of [date]."

All further suggestions welcome.

Incidently the new OSX 10.3.1 update seems to have fixed the most 
immediately obvious Panther problems
