I got a tip offlist from a previous list member Neville Findlater. I hadn't realized he left, but then I don't do a good job of paying attention to these things.
Well, his tip was: If you have those annoying "This message has been permanently deleted" emails sitting in your database, he found a way to quickly and easily make them vanish. Sort the window by the first column (that's the little "status" column before the Subject). After sorting, the message will have purged itself. That's of course MUCH quicker and easier then sitting thru a rebuild of the database. I have no idea why it works, I can only assume that by sorting the view, you force the index file to update. Since those messages are really caused by an index that is out of sync with the database, updating the index would logically probably get rid of them. Now, as much of a nice tip as this is, a warning should accompany it. If you see those messages, there are there BECAUSE of a problem with the database and index not matching. That could mean a problem with your database or index files. So a rebuild might not be such a bad idea anyway. If you choose to do the quick fix, you have been warned that it *might* be a symptom of a greater more serious problem, or it could just be a hiccup that only requires the quick fix. Decide for yourself. Thanks to Neville for this tip... I know it will save people some time and effort. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
