Putting an application (Emailer) in the Home folder does "change it" in any way. If it does not run natively in OS X it won't now magically do so. If you move SimpleText from the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder to the Applications folder of OS X - it doesn't change a thing other than its location. Opening SimpleText will still cause Classic to startup. Classic and OS X can communicate. Thus iPhoto can use Emailer to send photos.
