For the past 3 or more years, also currently, McAfee is still posting 
virus definitions database updates for Virex 6 around the beginning of 
every month. Also posted at VersionTracker's web site which I generally 
visit first. If it's not there, or the download from VT winds up flawed, 
I go to McAfee's web site and download the version 6 updates from there. 
Still running a first generation PowerMac 7100/80 with OS 8.1.

Never had a virus, or trojan horse in all the years been running Macs. 
The only time I run Virex is immediately after updating the virus 
definitions database file once a month. However, with Virex (which I 
think is the best of the bunch) always updated and running in the 
background I at least get peace of mind.
