The default for Mail is to leave messages on the server. You need to 
change this in your account preferences. The Server will not alert you. 
It's assumed you do what you do for a reason.

By the way, you are amongst several who are responsible for filling up 
mail boxes in the first place. You top post then add the entire damn 
thread below your one-liner, turning what could be a 1k file into a 20k 
file.

Multiply this by ten in "digest mode" and the resultant message can be 
unacceptably long and difficult to follow. So please keep quoted passages 
short, type your reply *after* the quote, and avoid big signatures. Just 
because the bandwidth is available doesn't imply that we should be using 
all of it.  ;-)
