All my problems are solved. after the error message said the attachment (photo) could not be found I deleted the attachment that showed in the attachment window (that had been entered automatically from iPhoto), then dragged the photo from the iPhoto window onto my desktop, then dragged it into the email message attachment window. It evidently worked :-)
