I use an e-mailer script that automatically puts any e-mail received with
a "from" address that is not in my e-mailer address book into a folder
that I have named SPAM. Then I take a closer look to ensure I have not
received an important e-mail from someone not yet in my address book
before deleting what is in the folder.

Spammers are pretty clever in skirting the script by getting the"from"
address to be my own personal address. For example, I received an e-mail
in my "in Box" this morning with the following header:

Date: 7/23/04 1:27 AM
Received: 7/22/04 8:35 AM
From: Cathy Powell, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: Mljames, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Obviously, the alleged "Cathy Powell" has found a way to make my address
her own for the moment which then allows her incoming mail to be placed
in my "In Box" since the script identifies the "from" address as one that
is contained in my address book (my own!!).

Since Cathy's name also appears in the "from" field, is there a way to
write a script that identifies deviations from what should be " MLJames,
[EMAIL PROTECTED]" (in the "from" field) if the incoming e-mail is not
from me but from some spammer using my e-mail address in combination
with other than "MLJames"? And in this way, get e-mailer to recognize
the incoming e-mail as SPAM?

Mary Lou
