what i can't figure out is why the URLs in the few spams that do manage
to get thru to me - about 2 or 3 a week evade my ISP's barricades - are
not valid. what's the point of going through all the trouble of sending a
zillion cleverly (de)composed messages that, in the end, cannot bring you
any return traffic?

this is an example of what I mean:

 http://vm.k.Rx-transmute.com

"No such website," I get when trying that address, which the spam
presented as an outlet for prescription drugs.

Now, it could be that the site did exist for a moment and that it has
since been taken down, by its owner or the authorities. I am trying it
several days since the original spam arrived.

Still, what a bother the whole thing is. I heard some "expert" this week
state that 70% of all email traffic is now malevolent: either spam or
virus/worm-laden.
