wow, this is a first where someone gets to help you for a change.
Actually I see on the right side of the Menu (OS X 10.3.4) under the little flag is a choice of Character Palette, Keyboard Viewer and an option to select International. The Character Palette has some interesting symbols.
I also know that if you want to put in a diacrital mark on Persian or Latin letters you can hit Option + e and select type the letter you want, such as a, e, i, o, u.. and it will come out as á é í ó ú
But I still do not know how to put two dots under a t, d or z for the Persian or Arabic language. I wrote some friends and will let you all know what I find.
Here are some samples in the KeyBoard Viewer--
Option Key symbols-`¡™£¢∞§¶•ªº–≠œ∑´®†¥¨ˆøπ“‘åß∂ƒ©˙∆˚¬…æΩ≈ç√∫˜µ≤≥÷ Option Shift symbols - `⁄€‹›fifl‡°·‚—±Œ„´‰ˇÁ¨ˆØ∏”’ÅÍÎÏ˝ÓÔÒÚƸ˛Ç◊ı˜Â¯˘¿
Option e and then strike the letter as follows and it will insert a diacritical mark for Persian language or Latin
á ú é ó í

Hey hey, you learn something new every day. I was just thinking about
this today with PopChar being mentioned that I didn't have an OS X native
way of seeing what characters were available in a given font (since I
never remember the key combo to access what I want when I want it).
Thanks for the tip Doug!
Also, at least on mine (10.2.8), there is an Insert button that will
automatically insert the selected symbol into the text where you left the
cursor. I actually didn't see a way to find out what key combo would make
the symbol. I was only able to figure out how to get it via that Insert
button.
