Yes, educate the sender.

This is what I send to offenders:

AUTOREPLY

You have sent me a blank message with an attachment.

Please check your e-mail preferences to ensure that "Plain text" is ON 
and "HTML" is OFF. As you know, there are a lot of viruses around and 
most users (myself included) have set their software to trash attachments.

So, when you send a blank text message with an HTML message attached, the 
HTML message gets trashed!

HOTMAIL USERS DO THIS:-

To turn off RTF formatting in an e-mail message   
    
1.  Click the "Compose" tab. The "Compose" page appears.   
2.  Click the "Tools" drop-down list on the left above the message text  
box and select "Rich-Text Editor OFF".
