I also fell afoul of this this fall, when I went to OS X for the first time. There are several shareware apps that allow one to turn on a debug feature in Safari, and having done that, one can activate an import bookmarks option. I haven't tried this--I'm just hoping that this means that a bookmark import feature is coming soon in a future version of Safari. While I wait for that to come, I'm still using Internet Explorer with my old bookmark collection.
