Well that #1 isn't quite going to work. Since he can't open his Emailer,
he can't move the messages. But I've never had a problem with too many
messages in any one emailer folder, and MY emailer db is typically 250-
300 MB with many thousands of messages per folder. 72543 total messages
last time I checked.

Oh, wait. THis is emailer v1.x Yeah, those emails are each separate text
files, and yeah the finder might squawk if you have too many in one
folder. Even if Emailer won;t launch, I suppose you might be able to open
the emailer folder & look for the filing cabinet folder & move them
around. But I'm not 100% sure that's a good idea. Emailer might freak
out. I dunno, it's been such a long time since I dealt with Emailer v1.x

It's not a bad idea to BACK UP your whole emailer folder before doing
battle. You never know what may happen. Better to work with a net, I say.

The basic few things that ever go wrong with Claris Emailer:

A) something gets stuck in the Temp Incoming folder
Cure; trash or move the 1st or last item in that folder relaunch
Emailer. If you want that item, use Chris's Famous Temp Reader

B) Under OSX: an invisible DS_Store file gums up the works.
Cure: Quit Emailer, Start Emailer. This will unpack any
remaining email in the Temp Incoming folder. Quit Emailer again. Now open
your emailer files folder (usually in your Emailer application folder),
locate the Temp Incoming folder. Open it, make sure it is empty (if not,
do the start emailer quit emailer juggle again until all email has been
processed).

Once the Temp Incoming folder is empty, throw out the Temp Incoming
folder. Close all open windows. Start Emailer. Emailer will create a new,
clean temp incoming folder. You MUST make sure that when you start
Emailer, the Emailer Files folder is NOT open (ie: the folder the Temp
Incoming folder is stored in can not be open). If it is, OS X has a habit
of inserting a new .DS_Store file into the Temp Incoming folder when it
is created. This is why I said close all open windows. (BTW: the
.DS_Store file is an invisible file, so you aren't going to see it)

C) Database gets out of sync or otherwise bafoosled.
Cure: A rebuild can be done by holding down the option key
just after launching Emailer. Do the simple rebuild first.

D) if you have a lot of messages (thousands) you may need to allocate
more RAM to Emailer. Something between 8MB & 25MB will probably do. If
you don;t have a ton of messages, then you are probably ok with the
default suggested size.

It's also possible that MAYBE (I haven't tried this) you can upgrade even
a damaged db to Claris Emailer 2.0v3. The 2.0v3 installer is available if
you look for it. You might try searching the emailer-talk list archives
with a command-click on this line:
<http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg07389.html>
In case the mail archiver munges this self referencing url I'll spell it out.
<http://www.mail-archive.com/emailer-talk(AT)eskimo.com/msg07389.html>
replace the (AT) with the usual shift 2 "at sign".

That ought to get you started looking for a place to download the emailer
installer.

If these don't work it might be that you have a hard drive problem. Try
Disk Warrior, rebuild your mac desktop, or something like that.

Best,
